Ann Arbor was my home away from home because my grandma lived on campus and my mother grew up in Ann Arbor. [Posted January 12, 2014] By Jazelle Hunt, NNPA Washington Respondent Washington, D.C.-- Middleclass Blacks are using credit to help cover their basic living expenses, according to a report from the NAACP and public policy research organization, Demos. In the recession's aftermath, 79 percent of middleclass African-American households carry credit card debt. Everybody needs credit but it should be a tool to help your economic life? said study co-author Dedrick Asante-Muhammad, senior director of the NAACP Economic Department. Now we see it as a drain on African Americans trying to gain a middle-class life. Released earlier this month, the report, he Challenge of Credit Card Debt for the African-American Middle Class, found that 42 percent of households are relying on their cards for basic living expenses when income and savings fall short. As an attorney, I must take legal education classes every year. Those educational courses are called "CLEs" -- Continuing Legal Education. Although I cannot personally vouch for this web site's accuracy, I have posted it because the information was included in a presentation I attended that was given by a reputable and trusted CLE provider. "As the number of people taking out government-backed student loans has soared, so has the number of borrowers who have fallen behind in making payments.
